Driver's License/License Plates for your car

There are three steps to getting your car registered with the State of Texas.

FIRST you have to get your car inspected at a state certified inspection station.  Find one near you with http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/vi/inspection/new_locator.asp.

SECOND you have to register your vehicle with the State of Texas.  To do that take your vehicle inspection certificate, proof of insurance and your out of state registration to your county tax office.

Find your county tax office at http://www.dot.state.tx.us/services/vehicle_titles_and_registration/county_tax_offices/default.html
They will have some forms to fill out and at least $130 in fees (depending upon your county).

FINALLY you need to apply for a Texas driver's license.  To do this go to the nearer of two DPS locations, either: 1500 North Congress Avenue, or 4719 South Congress Avenue.  Both are open every weekday from 8:00-5:00.  The North Congress location is generally less busy than the south location.  Take with you proof of social security number, valid out of state ID, and proof of Texas Vehicle registration.  There will be more fees and forms as well as a fun vision test.
