Faculty with Research Interests in Education

Research Faculty:

  • Efraim Armendariz (efraim@math.utexas.edu): Research interests include the general structure theory of noncommucative rings and their modules, with an emphasis on rings satisfying a polynomial identity and von Neumann regular rings; radical properties and torsion theories for ring and module categories. Professional interests include issues in mathematics education and reform mechanisms which lead to improved access for groups not traditionally represented in the mathematical sciences.
  • Jerry L. Bona (bona@math.utexas.edu): Research interests include Partial differential Equations, Fluid Mechanics, Computational Mathematics, and Mathematical Economics. Co-director of the NSF-sponsored Mathematicians and Education Reform Network (MER Network).
  • Ralph W. Cain (cain@mail.utexas.edu): Research interests include topics in secondary mathematics curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
  • L. Ray Carry Emeritus (L.Ray@mail.utexas.edu): Research interests include mathematics learning and curriculum evaluation.
  • William T. Guy: Research interests include Integral transforms, tensor analysis, applied mathematics, and mathematics education.
  • David Saltman (saltman@math.utexas.edu): Research interests include Brauer group theory and division algebras, with an emphasis on invariant theory of groups acting on fields, rationality of invariant fields, the center of the generic division algebra, and division algebras over p-adic curves and their geometry.
  • Michael P. Starbird (starbird@math.utexas.edu): Research interests include low dimensional geometric topology and topics in mathematics education - particularly how to make mathematics accessible to the general public.
  • Dale E. Walston Emeritus (dewed@mindspring.com): Research interests include Differential Equations, Numerical Analysis, and Mathematics Education.
