Efraim P. Armendariz

Efraim P. Armendariz

Feb 21 , 2013

It is with great sadness that the department announces the passing of Professor Efraim Armendariz. Efraim died on Wednesday 13th February after a battle with cancer. Efraim had been with the department since 1966 and was Chairman from 1991--2007. Under his leadership the department's stature rose nationally and internationally.

In his time in the department, Efraim was heavily involved in programs to enrich the mathematics experience for undergraduates at UT, as well as programs that impacted mathematics education state wide. For example, Efraim was instrumental in establishing the Emerging Scholars Program at the University of Texas, and he was an active supporter and participant of the UTeach program.

He will be sorely missed by his colleagues in the department, and in the larger University community.

A celebration of Efraim's life will be held on Saturday, February 23, 10am at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 3003 Northland Dr. Austin, TX 78757
