OK, great. At this point it appears the problem is mostly on
SBCL's side so I'm not going to try to put any changes into the
5.18 branch for it.

Maybe something like -Xfoo passes -foo to Lisp?
(Likewise --Xfoo passes --foo to Lisp.)
