[Maxima] beginner needs help with syntax

Thanks for your reply.
I am trying to provide as many known data to the equation solver so that it
can be used here:
*eq[i] := f[i-1] = (f(i) - c(i)*f[i+1] - b(i)*f[i])/a(i);*
Do you see what I mean?
