Austin Transportation Guide
Cabs:
Cabs in Austin are cheap and plentiful.
Yellow Cab Austin for example
charges $2 initially plus $2 for each additional mile. A ride from the airport
to downtown Austin (eg the Hyatt, 7.8 mile from the airport) costs less than $20.
The Hyatt is also 1.3 miles from the Umlauf sculpture garden, 2 miles from the Clay Pit and
3.3 miles from Laurie's house (brunch location), other downtown locations are similar.
Cabs are available regularly at the airport and the major hotels. You can book a cab
at the above webpage or call them at (512)452-9999. Other cabs are
Austin Cab: (512) 478-2222 and Lone Star Cab: (512) 836-4900.
Buses:
Capital Metro Buses are also cheap
($.75 except for express buses which are $1.50, as are day passes - request when boarding) and plentiful, and there's a
handy trip planner.
Here are a few particularly relevant routes:
- Route 100 - Airport Flyer. Goes between the airport, downtown and the university.
Downtown stops on Congress and 6th/7th are a few blocks (and across the river) north of the Hyatt (and allow transfer
to/from route 30 below). Stop on 6th and Lavaca allows transfer to Route 1 below. Also stops on 15th and Lavaca, two blocks
from the Clay Pit, for Friday afternoon arrivals!

- Route 1 (designated 1L or 1M, both work) Stops right across Congress from the Hyatt, on Lavaca and 16th northbound
(a block west of the Clay Pit - Friday dinner), on Guadalupe and 16th southbound (in front of the Clay Pit),
and on Guadalupe and 29th (three blocks east of Laurie's house - brunch).

- Route 30 - Barton Creek. Goes all the way down Congress downtown, stops across from the Hyatt,
