Welcome!

The Mathematics Department at the University of Texas at Austin is known throughout the world for its distinguished faculty and stimulating mathematical environment. It has an excellent research reputation, a strong graduate program and a full range of outstanding undergraduate programs.

The Mathematics Department has more than 100 faculty (tenured and tenure-track faculty members, as well as postdoctoral and instructional faculty), 85 graduate students and more than 1,000 undergraduate students.

The department's faculty includes members of the National Academy of Science, MacArthur Fellows, Guggenheim Fellows, Abel Prize winners, Wolf Prize winners, endowed research chairs and members of the Academy of Distinguished Teachers.

The department is committed to creating a welcoming climate for everyone and offering a rigorous mathematics education. Occupying the 8th-13th floors of UT's Physics-Mathematics Astronomy (PMA) building, the Department has excellent facilities for a proficient and active mathematical community. These include the Vaughn Lounge on the 12th floor, a meeting room on the 8th floor, departmental seminar rooms, state-of-the-art computer laboratories, and a first-rate Mathematics/Physics/Astronomy library.

The department has a long tradition of outreach to schools in central Texas, including the popular Saturday Morning Math Group program that brings extra-curricular education to high school and middle school students and mathematics enthusiasts in Austin and across the state.
